Community NRM Support Plan open for comment

Have your say - consultation closes 27 August

Friday, 28 July 2017

The North East Community NRM Plan describes how the North East Catchment Management Authority (CMA) will support Community Natural Resource Management (NRM) groups and networks in the region. This plan expands on the previous Landcare Support Plan to encompass support of all community groups and networks involved in NRM.

The North East region is fortunate to have a wide range of community groups, including Landcare, Friends of, Blackberry Action, Sustainable Agriculture, Environment, agricultural industry and fishing groups and networks operating in the region. These are described under a broad category of Community NRM.

Community NRM groups and networks are a critical component of, and contributor to the natural resource management efforts in the region. They often partner with government and land managers to improve the NRM outcomes and play a significant role in maintaining and enhancing natural resource condition in the region.

The North East CMA is committed to listening to and connecting with the community. Through this Plan, the North East CMA will seek to support community based, community led, practical, local actions to deliver positive environmental and sustainable land management outcomes.

STRATEGIC DIRECTION FOR CMA SUPPORT

The Community NRM Support Plan will provide strategic direction for the North East CMA to support and collaborate with Landcare and related Community NRM Groups in the region. This will inform CMA internal planning to ensure community priorities are integrated into project planning.

This plan lists key issues identified during the consultation for the review of the previous plan, and the CMA support actions to help address these issues.

This plan is not intended to provide direction for community groups, but may be useful to inform funding applications developed by groups.
