Waterwatch
Communities Caring for Catchments
North East Waterwatch is part of a national community water quality monitoring program that has been operating since 1993. We aim to:
- increase community awareness and understanding of water quality issues;
- increase community involvement in water management decisions;
- encourage collaborative action between the community and natural resource managers; and
- generate useful data for community and agency use.
Waterwatch brings together community groups, schools, landholders, local councils and water authorities. It is a great way for people to link with each other, share discoveries, compare findings and build a picture of the health of waterways across our region.
We also facilitate partnership opportunities around the health of our rivers between local government, private business and the community.
Waterwatch has been operating in the North East CMA region for 10 years now and has an extensive collection of water quality data from many waterway sites.
Our Partners
North East Waterwatch relies on partnerships within the region to provide support for community education and collection of water quality monitoring data. Support from a range of sources, enables a widespread and effective volunteer network to be maintained and expanded.
