SEED Teacher E-Learning Series August - September 2009

SEED has organised a 6 x 1hour E-Learning Teacher Professional Development series which you access from your computer - so no travel involved. For full details please click here.

The following list are organisations that SEED is aware of that provide professional development for teachers. Depending on funding the SEED project will be developing a coordinated North East professional development program for teachers relating to the topics of Biodiversity, climate change, waste and water. Biodiversity

Organisation LandLearn (Department of Primary Industries)
Description Experience LandLearns simple and interactive VELS-linked activities which support the incorporation of studies about sustainable agriculture and natural resource management into schools' curricula. These workshops can be developed to cover a range of themes across VELS domains including teaching and learning activities about farming enterprises (cropping, livestock and horticulture), trees, plants and plant growth, pests in agriculture, worms, water, food and food production and soils.

Organisation Royal Botanic Gardens
Description The Royal Botanic Gardens Education Service provides teachers with a variety of professional development opportunities that will assist them in developing inquiry-based, integrated programs for use in the classroom. All programs are incorporate VELS and innovative pedagogies. Utilisation of the Gardens as a teaching resource is highlighted in each program. Sessions can also explore with you ways to use your school gardens to integrate science with the rest of your curriculum and make learning more practical, meaningful and fun.

Climate Change

Organisation EPA (airwatch)
Description Offers free teacher professional development sessions to schools. Sessions can be scheduled during or after school at staff, faculty or year level meetings, on planning days, at cluster meetings and on special event days.

Organisation EarthWatch Institute
Description Teach Live is an experiential teaching and learning model designed to provide professional development opportunities to teachers whilst engaging students in real science. Teachers participate on an Earthwatch supported scientific research project and communicate their experiences to both their own students and those of other teacher team members using information communication technologies.
