The Threatened Species Bake Off is back

The Threatened Species Bake Off is back.

Around Australia, people will be baking to celebrate native species and raise awareness ahead of Threatened Species Day on Tuesday 7 September.

This year the theme is ecosystem engineers - species that significantly influence habitats, increasing complexity, diversity and the overall health of ecosystems.

The Long-footed potoroo is one example of an ecosystem engineer in north east Victoria. When digging for food, they turn over large amounts of soil to keep our land healthy.

Make sure to share your baked goods with the hashtag #TSBakeOff on the Threatened Species Commissioner Facebook page before 5pm, Wednesday 8 September.

Peak predictions - A market overview of the red meat industry for 2021-22

Livestock producers are enjoying record beef and lamb prices and rising demand across the state.

According to market analyst Simon Quilty, the buoyant market is a result of a combination of local and global factors, from positive seasonal conditions and reduced herd numbers to international trade, the pork industry in China and the drought in South America.

The question producers are asking is what lies ahead and how sustainable are these prices?
