Online NLIS Database training - 19 January

Do you own or manage cattle, sheep, or goats? Do you know how to use the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) database to meet your traceability requirements?

Join Agriculture Victoria online for free interactive training on Tuesday 19 January between 9am and 10.30am.

You will learn about livestock traceability, take a tour of the NLIS database, watch a live demonstration of how to transfer livestock and practise completing a transfer.

COVIDSafe Agricultural Businesses webinar - 20 January from 7pm

Agriculture Victoria has partnered with the Department of Health and the Victorian Farmers Federation to host a COVIDSafe Agricultural Businesses Webinar this Thursday, 20 January between 7pm and 8.30pm.

The webinar will cover topics including:

  • Information on COVID-19 regulations and employer obligations
  • COVIDSafe plans and business continuity
  • Support programs for businesses and individuals

Rennie Workshop & Soil Pit Discussion

27 January 2022, 4pm to 7.30pm (BBQ Dinner provided)

Farmers and community members are invited to join the Riverine Plains group for a Cool Soil Initiative Soil Pit Discussion between 4pm and 5.30pm on the effect of pulses on soils with Dr Cassandra Schefe (AgriSci). Meet at "Brakefield", 1253 Bull Plain Rd, Rennie at 4pm.

Following that there will be a discussion on Managing Drought and Climate Challenges between 5.30pm and 7pm with Kate Coffey. Meet at "Redbank", 103 Roseneath Rd, Mulwala.

Topics include:

  • Why now is a good time to prepare for drought
  • Previous experiences of drought - what worked, what didn't
  • Identifying on-farm/business changes needed for the next drought
  • Accessing physical and mental health services, business supports and grants
  • How can communities be better supported during drought
  • Importance of personal and business connections.

Pasture Weed Identification and Management webinar

Closing the gap on weeds in pastures

Monday, 31 January 2022, 8pm

Hosted by the Rural City of Wangaratta, supporting the Pest Animal and Weed Control Project.

Presenter is Professor Brian Sindel - Professor of Weed Science at the University of New England. Brian is a pasture weed specialist.

He has, with his students, led Australian research into the ecology and management of weed species and will share his knowledge on developing and implementing an integrated weed management approach for our farming systems.

15 Mile Creek and Boggy Creek

Monday 31 January 2022, 7.30pm to 8.45pm

Julian Martin of local company Water Technology, will take us through the historical changes that occurred on Boggy and Fifteen Mile Creek and how these waterways have behaved in response.

This webinar will form an excellent basis for a Greta Valley Landcare Group hands on field session which is scheduled for later in Summer.

The presentation will help to inform how we can manage these waterways moving forward. Sally Day will also present information about our current waterways grant, focusing on weed and pest animal control.
