Moving to Higher Ground: Lessons from Grantham

Grants support Landcare volunteers across Victoria

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2023 Victorian Landcare Grants in the North East Catchment Management Authority (CMA) region.

In the North East CMA region, $367,250 has been allocated to 25 on-ground projects and educational activities focused on biodiversity protection. The diverse range of projects includes creating supplementary habitat for native fauna at Burgoigee Creek; a traditional burning engagement and revegetation/remnant protection program at Honey Suckle – Spring Creek in Towong Shire; protecting native forest nectar resources for wildlife with dedicated European Honey Bee plantations at Rutherglen; and stopping the spread of the worst urban garden escapees at Wodonga.

A farmer's view of emission reduction opportunities

A forum in Beechworth on 13 September will help farmers and agricultural service providers to understand on-farm requirements and supply chain demands as the world moves to a low-carbon economy.

Agricultural consultant Cam Nicholson will provide an overview of where carbon requirements are headed and the evolution of possible emission reduction technologies.

Report waterway issues via Survey 123

The North East Catchment Management Authority (CMA) has this week made the transition to Survey 123 from the  existing Snap Send Solve application to support landholders and the public to report waterway related issues.

The enhanced integration of Survey 123 with North East CMA’s internal systems will allow for a more streamlined process.

New video celebrates Alpine Peatland protection

North East Victoria is home to more than 2000 hectares of Alpine Peatlands, an endangered ecological community listed under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (1999). 

Alpine Peatlands, or Alpine Sphagnum Bogs and Associated Fens, are a priority ecological community for the North East Catchment Management Authority (CMA) supported through a five-year project to protect and enhance these unique environments. 

This five-year, cross-regional project is coordinated by the Victorian Alpine Peatlands Project Coordinating Committee (VAPCC) and delivered in collaboration across three CMA regions (North East, East Gippsland and West Gippsland) with Parks Victoria. This project is funded by the Australian Government's National Landcare Program.

Partners in the video are Parks Victoria, East Gippsland CMA, West Gippsland CMA and Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation.
