VicNoTill farmers are passionate about thinking outside the square in their pursuit of profitably producing quality, nutritious food in large-scale broadacre cropping and mixed farming systems.

Join us at Food for Thought to share the latest research, data and on-farm trials that are shifting Australian producers towards better farming systems which connect soil, human, economic and environmental health.

The Wise Water Ways Workshop provides a comprehensive overview of rural and urban stream rehabilitation and management principles and practices. It also provides an extensive "hands on" experience through on-ground group assignments.

This workshop is aimed at people working, studying or who are interested in stream management, particularly those involved in practical natural resource works.

The large regeneration project coordinated by NECMA for the Livingstone Creek in far East Gippsland is going ahead in November. Dates for this planting will be November 11th-22nd inclusive, 2024.

it is hoped to eventually regenerate the creek from the junction with the Mitta River at Hinnomunjie right back to Omeo.

The project is funded jointly between the Nature Fund (Vic. Gov.) and Greening Australia. Arial seeding of surrounding hillsides will occur and 40,000 plants are to be planted streamside. This is a huge project involving over a million dollars in remedial work.

Every tree and shrub planted by a volunteer saves approximately $4.00 per tree, which means more work can be achieved with the same amount of money. Much of the local community is involved including Omeo Angling Club, Benambra Angling Club, Friends of the Mitta River, Landcare and Bairnsdale Fly Fishing Club.

Planting each day will run from 9am to approximately 1pm with lunch provided each day for the ATF volunteers. Afternoons are free for recreation of your choice or simply a rest and a yarn.

Accommodation available includes free camping at the Hinnomunjie Public Campground, an extensive campground with drop dunnies. The ATF and NECMA will provide additional port-a-loos and showers at the campground for volunteers. Omeo Angling Club also has space available in Omeo for free camping with shower and toilet available. Omeo Caravan Park provides a paid alternative in town. There are numerous other options available for private accommodation if so desired.

November will also be a great time to be fishing up around the area with plenty of rivers within easy driving distance from the work site. Maybe you could plan a planting/fishing holiday for one or two weeks.

It is important to register for this event because it provides us with numbers for hiring ablution facilities and catering.

A large regeneration project coordinated by North East CMA for the Livingstone Creek in Omeo Valley is planned for November.

The "Bringing back the Maccas to Livingstone Creek" project is funded by Nature Fund (Vic. Government) and supports other rehabilitation works recently completed by Greening Australia. There are 40,000 native plants which will be planted along crown frontage areas along Livingstone Creek. The planting will regenerate 17 kilometres of critical Macquarie Perch habitat, from the top of Omeo Valley to the junction with Mitta River (Hinnomunjie bridge).

Volunteers (age 16+) are invited to be involved with tree planting over the two weeks and spend the afternoons enjoying the river. Members from the Australian Trout Foundation, Omeo Angling Club, Benambra Angling Club, Friends of the Mitta River, Landcare, Bairnsdale Fly Fishing Club and Government agencies will be supporting the planting. Every tree and shrub planted by a volunteer saves approximately $4.00 per tree, which means far more trees can be planted in total.
