North East Regional Catchment Strategy approved by Victorian Government

The new North East Regional Catchment Strategy (RCS) provides a long-term vision and blueprint for investment into and management of natural resources for north east Victoria.

It reflects the responses of those living, working, visiting and connecting with the region, who were asked for their vision for north east Victoria’s land, water, biodiversity and community resources.

Darren McCormick from NorMac Rural Services is guest presenter for this informal session. Darren has worked in pastures and livestock systems for 25 years with a background in dairy pastures and production through the North East valleys. Darren will take participants through assessing pasture health and composition and will cover the following aspects of pasture management:

  • Planning - short & longer term
  • Preparation
  • Renovation phases
  • Species selection
  • Timing
  • Weed control including grass & broadleaf wees
  • Fertiliser/liming and soil testing
  • Grazing management

Making sense of your soil test

David Hardwick from Soil Land Food will help participants to learn the essentials when it comes to reading soil tests.

Agronomic soil tests are a really useful tool for soil management but the ability to read and interpret them effectively takes skill and understanding. In this half-day workshop, delegates pull apart soil tests and learn how to make sense of them.
