The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is undertaking a review of the Basin Plan and is calling for submissions.
Now is your opportunity to help build an approach that delivers more for our communities, industries, rivers and floodplains.
MDBA has released a discussion paper seeking community feedback and is open for consultation until 1 May 2026.
The introduction of the Basin Plan in 2012 set new caps on water take for each catchment, along with water recovery targets across the Murray-Darling Basin.
The next Basin Plan needs to build on local knowledge, and match water recovery objectives and use of environmental water to the needs of local river systems.
A lot has changed over the past 14 years. Our goal is to ensure future decisions deliver real gains for our rivers and the communities who depend on them.
Our experience implementing the Basin Plan shows that:
•Healthy Rivers take more than just adding water
•Local projects, made with community, make a real difference
•First Nations peoples must have their voices heard
•The climate is changing and our rivers are affected
•Keeping our rivers flowing takes real collaboration and transparency
Shaping a better Basin Plan starts with your voice. Victorians are encouraged to make submissions directly to the MDBA, while the Victorian Government will also make a submission during the consultation period - your experience as river communities can build a better Basin Plan for the future.
