Provision of fish passage is critical for healthy and
resilient fish populations in the upper Ovens River. Fish
populations need unimpeded movement along rivers for
successful spawning, feeding and migration.
The Fishways project, funded by the DELWP’s
Environmental Water: Works and Measures Program, is
working closely with the Alpine Shire and other key
stakeholders to deliver designs for the provision of fish
passage at the Bright and Porepunkah weirs, that fits in
with the current and future operational requirements.
This project aims to deliver design and construction
specifications only – no physical structural works at this
stage. Join NECMA staff to view and discuss the designs.
