This is the second in a four-part practical workshop series focusing on planning, restoring, establishing, and managing farm shelterbelts for biodiversity or livestock protection. Participating landholders who wish to establish or repair a shelterbelt as part of this program may also be supplied with tubestock and tree guards for their project.

Focus: Restoring older or underperforming sites, interplanting, and benefits of maintaining fencing.

Speaker: Sally Day, North East CMA

Field activity: Site inspection of struggling plantings to review key learnings and practical solutions.

Project participants: Design their sites. Select plants.

This project is supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Natural Heritage Trust under the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program. It is delivered with support from the North East CMA.

Busting Blackberries in Sensitive Areas

Join Dr Robin Adair, ecological consultant and vegetation manager, and Kiewa Catchment Landcare Groups for a practical half-day workshop on effective and sustainable blackberry management in sensitive areas.

With a focus on protecting natural ecosystems, Robin will share his expertise in managing invasive species in challenging environments. If you have a creek, wet area or patch of native vegetation on your property affected by blackberries, this workshop is for you.

Blackberries threaten our environment, agricultural production and cultural heritage, making them a challenge for the whole community. With the right knowledge and management techniques, however, they can be effectively controlled while minimising impacts on surrounding vegetation and waterways.

This FREE half-day workshop will cover best-practice approaches to managing blackberries in sensitive areas, including a practical demonstration of blackberry treatment along a waterway.

Everyone welcome. Morning tea and a light lunch provided. Bookings essential.

Screening of Future Council

Chiltern Landcare Group invites the Indigo Shire community to a screening of the documentary, Future Council. Director Damon Garneau invites eight children on an epic adventure across Europe in a school bus powered by biofuel. Their mission is to better understand the planet's predicament and explore solutions.

All ticket proceeds will go towards a youth designed Landcare project.

Light refreshments and supper wil be served.
