Project Update
Ryans Lagoon environmental water infrastructure project progresses
Following several years of successful environmental watering and strong ecological outcomes at Ryans Lagoon, the North East Catchment Management Authority (North East CMA) is progressing new infrastructure that will provide a long-term solution for delivering environmental water to the nationally significant wetland on the Murray River floodplain.
Environmental watering has helped restore important wetland habitat and demonstrated the site's strong ecological response to water. The new infrastructure will replace the current temporary diesel pumping arrangement with a permanent mains-powered pump system, providing a more reliable and efficient way to deliver environmental water and support the long-term health of the wetland.
This important environmental works project is one of the projects seeking better outcomes with available environmental water managed by the Victorian Constraints Measures Program. Funding is provided by the Australian Government through the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).
The project is being delivered by the North East CMA, Traditional Owner groups and DEECA, in partnership with Goulburn-Murray Water, which will manage construction of the infrastructure. Construction is expected to commence in the coming months. The project builds on a strong partnership between Traditional Owners, environmental water managers, government agencies and local communities that have worked together to support Ryans Lagoon over many years.
