Kiewa River work protects public infrastructure

16 February 2018

PRAMS, puppies and power walkers may be impacted by flood repair works commencing February 19 on the Kiewa River at Killara.

North East Catchment Management Authority (North East CMA) project officer, Michael Broughton, said North East CMA has engaged a contractor to help repair a gauging station site located on the Kiewa River, immediately downstream of the Murray Valley Highway.

“They will start works along the Kiewa River at Killara, commencing at the Murray Valley Highway bridge and working downstream for approximately 260 metres,” Mr Broughton said.

“This work will help protect essential public infrastructure. The gauge measures water flow, level and salinity. If all goes to plan, the works should be completed by the end of the week, on Friday 23 February, in order to minimise disruption to the community.

“We would ask the public to be aware that there will be trucks carting rock and an excavator onsite. We ask that they take notice of all signage and fencing put in place to ensure the safety of the public and contractors during works.”

The project is being funded by the Murray Darling Basin Authority, North East Catchment Management Authority and Parklands Albury/Wodonga. Other agencies with interest in this area, including the Wodonga Council and Goulburn Murray Water, have been consulted and are supportive of the works being undertaken to repair the damage to the stream gauging site caused by flooding.
