People living and working across the Upper Murray, Tallangatta and Mitta Valleys, and surrounding areas are invited to attend a practical recovery workshop designed to support wellbeing, build resilience and help individuals and families navigate the ongoing impacts of drought, fire and other significant challenges.
The Recovering Stronger Workshop will be free for the community and will be held on Sunday, 23 August at the Bullioh Hall, Murray Valley Highway, Bullioh between 10am and 3pm.
While the immediate effects of drought and fire may have passed for many communities, recovery is often a much longer journey. In the months following a natural disaster or prolonged period of stress, the physical, mental and emotional impacts can begin to emerge as the initial urgency subsides.
To help community members better understand and manage this recovery process, experienced Facilitator, Cynthia Mahoney, will deliver this workshop, drawing on her extensive experience supporting communities across Australia following natural disasters.
Local Tallangatta Valley Farmer Tara Brewer, from Brewer Beef, initiated the workshop as a way to bring the whole community together to connect and navigate the next 6-12 months.
“The past few years have been really stressful, with drought and fires having a huge impact on our local area, as well as rising cost of living, and increased farm input costs putting pressure on families and small businesses,” Ms Brewer said.
“We hope this workshop will leave attendees with a greater understanding of recovery and practical approaches to help them move forward with confidence.”
The workshop will provide practical tools and strategies to help participants maintain wellbeing, manage stress, strengthen relationships and make informed decisions for the future.
"Recovery does not end when the emergency is over," Ms Mahoney said.
"Many people find that stress builds over time, affecting their confidence, wellbeing and ability to plan ahead. This workshop is designed to provide practical, real-world strategies that people can use in their daily lives to support themselves, their families and their businesses."
Participants will learn how to:
- Understand the recovery process after drought and fire
- Manage stress and avoid feeling overwhelmed
- Improve wellbeing and resilience
- Make confident decisions
- Strengthen relationships
- Plan for the future with confidence
The workshop is open to everyone, including local community members, farmers, and business-owners.
Morning tea, lunch and notes will be provided. Register at trybooking.com/events/landing/1620999
