Woodlands and Wetlands

Woodlands and Wetlands

The Woodlands and Wetlands Project is funded by the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme and aims to build the capacity of Landholders to protect and manage Nationally Significant Assets in North East Victoria.

This project has a number of sub projects including:

  1. Incentives and Conservation Covenants
The North East CMA has partnered with Trust for Nature to deliver incentives so Landholders can protect and manage priority vegetation communities in the North East CMA region. Landholders sign up to 10 year management agreement to protect and enhance their sites. Dedicated landholders can also permanently protect special ecosystems through a Trust for Nature on-title conservation covenant.
  2. Field days
Field days based on Woodlands or Wetlands theme and ecological burning will be held throughout the three year period of the project. For current information refer to the EVENTS page on this website.
  3. Monitoring Project Outcomes
The Australian National University is being funded to monitor biodiversity on Woodlands sites as part of a long term biodiversity monitoring project. Ecological burning Trials of Grassy ecosystems has also been funded to continue some great work started by the Kiewa Catchment and Talgarno/Wises Creek Landcare Groups. These trials are also being monitored by Blue Devil Consulting.
