As part of improving the health of 36 waterways through Water for Victoria The Uncovering the Ovens project is one of ten flagship waterways identified as priorities for action through large-scale, long term projects through consultation with communities and key stakeholders. The flagship project aims to better communicate the social & environmental benefits and consequent economic values of investing in waterways and by doing so:
Improve capacity to help communicate the value (outcomes + benefits) of the $222 million investment (EC4 Water for Victoria Chapter 3 actions)
- Increased profile of the value of investing in waterways and catchments with the target audience
- Community passion for waterways and catchments (as “places they love and use”) strengthened and promoted
The long term objectives for Uncovering the Ovens are to improve:
- Recreational access to waterways
- Stream channel & bank stability to protect & manage existing infrastructure & past Investment
- Riparian native vegetation
- Macroinvertebrate biota
