pH Mapping and Growing The Best Feed For Your Stock - Towong

Wednesday 8th of October at the Towong Hall

Soil acidity can have a major impact on the health of your soils and in turn effects your ability to match feed production to the requirement of your livestock.

This workshop will explore cost effective monitoring and management of soil acidity coupled with grazing needs and growing the best feed for your livestock.

Wednesday the 8th of October at the Towong Hall, Towong.

Andrew Whitlock from Precision Agriculture Australia will showcase a new approach to monitoring soil pH across your property.

This will involve a demonstration of mobile mapping technology and discussion on pros and cons and suitability of the tool for use on your farm.

DEPI soil specialist Sue Briggs will discuss the impacts of soil acidity on productivity and how lime quality and can affect your liming program.

A map produced at McKimmies property near Towong using mobile pH technology will be used as a local case study for comparing current liming programs with one that might be developed from the new map.

John Webb-Ware from Melbourne University will look at matching animal nutritional requirements with feed availability throughout the year.

John has over 20 years experience consulting to sheep and beef producers in South East Australia on all aspects of livestock management and production.

Chris Mirams is an Agricultural consultant based in north east Victoria and southern NSW. He will be discussing optimising grazing systems and playing to the strengths of your farm. Chris will be drawing on his experience from managing Woomargama Station near Holbrook in NSW.
