Shade and Shelter for Livestock Production

North east beef and sheep producers are invited to attend a field day on the design and management of shade and shelter for a productive farming system, ensuring you make the most of the shade and shelter on your property.

Morning session – presentations
Afternoon session – paddock walk

Where: Bowmans-Murmungee Hall, corner of Bowmans Road (off Great Alpine Rd) and Murmungee Road (off Buckland Gap Rd).

Morning tea and light lunch provided, therefore it is essential to register.

Shelter belts, paddock trees and native vegetation provide enormous benefits in extreme hot and cold weather events to livestock productivity, as well as being valuable assets for biodiversity and carbon on-farm.

This field day will assist you to manage and enhance existing shade and shelter as well as design new areas for development.

DEPI Land Management Extension Officer, Manager Kylie Macreadie will present on design possibilities and shelter and shade management for your property.

DEPI District Veterinary Officer Jeff Cave will outline the animal health impacts of hot and cold  weather events on livestock. Learn about the tools that can assist in identifying these weather events.

Visit local properties to see and hear how landholders have been establishing and using shade  and shelter in their farming system.

This day is supported by Landcare, NECMA and the Australian Government.
