Horse owners are invited to attend a full-day Equiculture workshop with internationally acclaimed author and presenter on best practice ‘equine lifestyle’, Stuart Myers, on Sunday 26 November.

The workshop focuses on how to manage horses and the land they live on. Learn how to make decisions that will improve your life and the life of your horse/s.

Project Officer with Wodonga Urban Landcare Network (WULN), Gervaise Gaunt says "In the workshop horse owners will learn how to use their horse's natural and domesticated behaviours, combined with good pasture management principles to improve and maintain their properties.

"This includes how to manage pasture to encourage biodiversity and ground cover and manage horse health issues such as such as laminitis and obesity. It also covers how to best design your property to maximise outcomes for your horses and the natural environment, including soil health and water quality.

"Furthermore, by understanding best practice horse management you will learn about the aesthetic and financial benefits you can gain for your property – i.e. improved ground cover, reduced feed bills, lower parasitic (worm) burdens, and fewer weeds to control.

"Everyone is welcome to attend as pasture management principles are similar for large or small horse properties’, explains Ms Gaunt. ‘Stuart brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to provide practical solutions that everyone can adopt on their property. We are excited to bring this opportunity to the North East region community."

The workshop is delivered through the Wodonga Urban Landcare Network – Sustainable Agriculture Series, in partnership with Kiewa Catchment Landcare Groups, and is supported by the North East Catchment Management Authority’s Our Catchments, Our Communities Project, through funding from the Victorian Government.

Maximising Business Opportunities to Fit your Business Carbon

Tuesday 5 December 2023
2pm to 4pm
Registrations here

Following on from last year's popular webinar on the same topic, Landcare Farming brings you the latest thinking around carbon and maximising ecosystem opportunities to fit your business.

What do resilient agricultural investments look like? As economies transition towards lower emissions, new carbon neutrality and emission-efficient technologies are presenting economic, environmental and social market opportunities to Australian producers. In this webinar, Landcare Farming will bring together five experts to advise on the latest ‘carbon literacy’ for producers and the role of carbon sequestration solutions in reaching decarbonisation targets, alongside the opportunities that will unfold for Australia’s agricultural industry in the coming years.

Prof Richard Eckard (Vic) - Speaker

Richard is Professor of Sustainable Agricultural Systems, the University of Melbourne, and Director of the Primary Industries Climate Challenges Centre, a research centre addressing the impacts of a changing climate on agriculture. His research focuses on carbon farming and accounting towards carbon neutral agriculture, managing extreme climate events and options for agriculture to respond to a changing climate.

Dr Warwick Badgery (NSW) – Speaker

Dr Warwick Badgery is a research leader with NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) with over 15 years’ research experience on improving the profitability and sustainability of grazing systems and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions under a changing climate. Warwick has significant experience in investigating soil C under grazing systems, led the Central NSW component of the National Soil Carbon Research Project (SCaRP) and helped develop the first pilot pricing scheme for soil carbon in Australia.

Dr Stephen Wiedemann (QLD) – Speaker

Dr Stephen Wiedemann is an agricultural systems scientist and Managing Director at Integrity Ag. He is a leading expert in carbon footprinting and baselining, emission reduction, carbon offset project development and carbon neutral certification. Stephen’s experience extends across the full suite of agricultural industries including wool and cotton, as well as beef, lamb, chicken, eggs, pork, cropping and horticulture.

Andrew Jones (QLD)- Speaker

Andrew Jones is a Partner with BDO in Brisbane. He is a member of the BDO Food and Agribusiness group, and practices as a taxation specialist. Andrew’s clients include primary producers and renewable energy generators. He also advises on the tax implications of carbon credit generation and offsetting and has been invited to speak about these issues at industry and technical forums.
