Works are continuing below Jubilee Bridge, Omeo as part of Victorian Fisheries Habitat Fund. Works over the past 6 months have included treating large willows over a 1.1 km section of Livingstone Creek adjacent to Jubilee bridge. Focus now shifting to installing habitat for aquatic species including (Macquarie Perch, Platypus, Rakali), follow up weed control and revegetation.
25 large boulders have been placed in this section of the creek to create resting spots for fish while they navigate up steep sections between pools. These rocks will also encourage in stream plants and insects back into the waterway.
The removal of the willows has allowed reeds and other aquatic vegetation to establish providing much needed food for fish. The site will be planted out in the following months resulting in a much-improved natural area for aquatic species and recreational anglers and other water users.
