New Friends of the King River group plant 600 natives

A huge thank you to volunteers from the newly formed #FriendsoftheKingRiver, who joined the North East CMA and a local landholder last week to plant 600 native trees and shrubs along the King River.

The planting is helping restore a section of riverbank previously dominated by willows and other woody weeds. Many of the species selected are densely rooted shrubs that help stabilise riverbanks during floods while also providing valuable habitat and food sources for native birds.

This restoration effort forms part of the King River Project, which aims to strengthen community stewardship and increase participation in activities that support the health of the river.

The project is supported by the #VictorianGovernment through the Our Catchment Our Communities Program.
